For a long time, college English teaching was mainly teacher-centered. That is to say, teachers played a dominant role in the classroom whereas students played a passive role. Such stuffed-duck teaching mode in class can easily neglect students'emotional factors, thus causing them to feel nervous about English and hindering their improvement in English.Nowadays educators increasingly realize that it is learners themselves that decide the effects of English study and all successful education should take the learners' emotional attitudes into full consideration. How to use emotional factors and how to build a student-centered atmosphere have become an everlasting pursuit in an English class. Educators, English teachers in particular, are trying to seek some effective teaching ways, mixed with students'emotional feelings. The "Suggestopedia" theory, if carried out well, can be such an effective way, and can reflect to great extent such teaching conception. The "Suggestopedia" theory attaches importance to students'emotions and their consciousness, believing that the study process involves activities of both reason and emotion. Suggestopedia can effectively stimulate the learners' learning motive and promote their sensory organs to jointly participate in the classroom activities. Thus, students can enjoy pleasure in the teaching activities, thus achieving twice the result with half the effort.Drawing on the Suggestopedia research carried out abroad, the thesis explores relevant Suggestopedia methods from five angles:Affective Suggestopedia, Situational Suggestopedia, Teacher-Talk Suggestopedia, Non-Verbal Suggestopedia and Artistic Suggestopedia.45 students in the control group will be taught in traditional teaching ways whereas another 45 students in the test group tested by means of the Suggestopedia methods in various experiments, followed by questionnaires, interviews and tests so as to test whether different Suggestopedia methods are of great benefit or not in college English teaching. All results show that Suggestopedia methods can greatly call out students' enthusiasm, stimulate their potentiality and interest, and help them achieve high study efficiency during the study process. The thesis also gives some implications for future research.
