Research On The Relationship Among Self-Esteem Need, Self-Esteem And Social Avoidance And Distress Of College Students

In this study,students were selected as research objects from universities. The Need of Self-Esteem Seale is used to explore the development of the self-esteem need. This paper also explore the relationship betweem self-esteem need and self-esteem and the fear of negative evaluation and social avoidance and distress.It would pave the way to enhance the social ability,The research results shows that:(1)The Need of Self-Esteem Seale includes six elements:Self-Enhance Need,Self-Value Need, Comparative Advantages over others, the Importance of the pursuit, Self-Defense Orientation,Self-Reflection Necessary.It has high reliability and validity.(2) The need of self-esteem is prevalent among the Chinese college students.The level of self-value need and the comparative advantages over others is highest,and the level of self-defense orientation is lowest.(3) University students, with different genders, grades, majors, city children or not and cadrs or not, show no remarkable distinct self-esteem need,while the differences are obvious as regard to whether the students are singleton.(4) There is a remarkable positive correlation between self-esteem need and self-esteem, And the need of self-esteem plays an important role in the prediction of self-esteem.(5) There is a remarkable positive correlation between self-esteem need and the fear of negative evaluation, And the need of self-esteem plays an important role in the prediction of the fear of negative evaluation.(6) There is a remarkable negative correlation between self-esteem need and social avoidance and distress, And the need of self-esteem plays an important role in the prediction of social avoidance and distress.(7) There is a remarkable negative correlation between self-esteem and the fear of negative evaluation, And self-esteem plays an important role in the prediction of the fear of negative evaluation.(8) There is a remarkable negative correlation between self-esteem and social avoidance and distress, And self-esteem plays an important role in the prediction of social avoidance and distress.(9) Self-esteem need and self-esteem have great effect on the fear of negative evaluation and social avoidance and distress. Self-esteem need may effect the fear of negative evaluation and social avoidance and distress,or effect it indirectly through self-esteem.
