Float glass exists surface defects such as micro cracks and so no, causing its actualstrength and theoretical strength(10~14GPa) have greatly different. When the float glass’product process, tin penetration is a distinctive problem. The tin penetration on the floatglass surface to change the structure of the glass as the network modification ion. Thispaper mainly system research two aspects, one is the effection of tin penetration on thefloat glass’ strength, and the other is glass strengthening by silicone.This paper used the biaxial flexure testing to measure the glass bending strength.Used the XRF method for the determination of the glass surface’s tin content distribution,used the XPS to measure the tin element state on the glass surface when they have beentoughened simulation treated or untreated, in order to analyze the effection of tin on thestrength of glass. Put the glass in the different temperature’s organic silicone oil and keepdifferent time of heat preservation, using XRF to measure the change of the glass surfacesilicon content and Fourier infrared spectrometer to analysis the handled glass surfacecomposition; at last, we analyzed the change of the glass strength、Vivtorinox hardnessand anti aging properties for the glass which have been treated by silicone.The result show that: when measure the strength of glass, the measure value when thetin surface up is higher than when the atmosphere up, the strength of glass decrease withthe tin content increase; the Vivtorinox hardness increased with the glass surface tincontent increase. For before and after thermal treatment of glass surface, there are threekinds of tin element valence state, Sn0、Sn2+and Sn4+, where Sn2+accounted for most of thetotal tin element, around90%. After heat treatment, the Sn4+content of the glass surfacecompared with the Sn4+content of the glass surface without the heat treatment willincrease; in the same processing environment, the glass bending strength reduced with theSn4+content increase, as for overall, the glass bending strength reduced along with theratio of the glass surface Sn4+and Sn2+increased. Heat treatment the glass with organicsilicone oil, because silicone oil’s organic bond opened, the silicon atom and the Si-O-breaking bond are combinable in Si-O-Si and increase the silicon content. As the holdingtime growth, in250℃silicone and keep4~5h, the glass’ bending strength(201.29MPa),Vivtorinox hardness (557.62HV), and and anti-aging properties are the best in this research study..
