OBJECTIVE: To compare the pulmonary function after this two kind of operationunder video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), segmentectomy and lobectomy,on the treatment of small pulmonary nodule (the diameter≤3cm).METHODS: Fifteen patients underwent VATS segmentectomy and20underwentVATS lobectomy. Two groups had no statistical difference in gender, age andpreoperative pulmonary function. The postoperative pulmonary function at sixmonths, included FEV1%, FVC%, MVV%, was compared between the two groups.RESULTS: Both the VATS segmentectomy and lobectomy would affect thepulmonary function. But the postoperative FEV1%was statistically better insegmentectomy group(84.53%±13.43) than that in lobectomygroup(76.19%±8.51%)(P<0.05). There were no significant differences on thepostoperative FVC%and MVV%between the two groups. No death and localrecurrence occurred in two groups up to now.CONCLUSION: On the treatment of small pulmonary nodule (the diameter≤3cm)under VATS, segmentectomy with the resection of less than three segments, canprovide more benefits than lobectomy on preserving pulmonary function.
