Intertextuality has been getting increasing attention since it was introduced intoChina. Many scholars and experts incline to study its relationship with translation. Hencethere appeared many papers on studying particular areas of translation from the intertextualperspective.According to intertextuality theory, no text exists in total isolation from other texts. Therefore, no text is a complete independent original, and even extremely innovative textcannot fall apart from other literature by which the originality of certain text is defined. Inthis sense, every text is a result of translation, which is regarded as transformation bycollaborating reading and interpreting actions, both of which are intertextual activities bythemselves. This thesis studies the translation of buzzwords, which are filled with the spirit of thecontemporary times and rich in Chinese characteristics from the perspective ofintertextuality. The aim is to demonstrate how the theory exerts influence on the translationof buzzwords. By analyzing typical examples, the author attempts to show how theintertextuality theory is applied. The most important point in translating buzzwords is toestablish the same or similar intertextual network for the target text as in the source text. Inthe consideration of the differences in language, culture and social context, it is clearlyrealized that total equivalence is nearly impossible. Therefore, we should deal with faithfulness in translating buzzwords with new ideas.Referring to achieving the real faithfulness in translating buzzwords, the point is to doone’s utmost to find out the intertextual signals hidden in the ST and reproduce the similarintertextual network in the TT. Finally, in accordance with the features of buzzwords, corresponding translation strategies are summarized for better translation. What’s more, forimprovement of translation and better culture exchange, more critical attitude and moresystematic translation strategies are proposed.
