Middlebury’s Summer Language Schools is a second language school which the Middlebury College holds in every summer holiday in their campus. The Chinese Summer Language School began in1966. And the "Middlebury Model" means the teaching and administration Model which the Chinese Summer Language School uses. As the Chinese teaching is developing, there are more and more Chinese language programs that set up in China, so more and more people start to pay close attention to Teaching Model. The "Middlebury Model" as the best one in the all the teaching models, according to the research about it, on the one hand, it can promote the development of theory, on the other hand, the theory is good to the practice, and it can help the construction of the Chinese language teaching model in China.The writer uses Descriptive method and Comparative analysis method to discuss in the different four parts. Start to the Middlebury Model, at the first, the writer introduces the academic background of the Middlebury Model, which are linguistics, pedagogy and psychology. And then to describe the summer program and the overseas program of the Middlebury Model, to analysis the differences between the different Chinese language levels, and to analysis the reasons. At the same time, to contrast the Middlebury Model with the two teaching models in China, and to analysis the superiors and inferiors of the Middlebury Model and China teaching models. In the end, to discuss possibility of the Middlebury Model and Skill-distribution teaching model will be combined.According to the comparative analysis about the different teaching models, on the one hand, we can examine significance of the audiolingual method in the Middlebury Model closely in Sentence pattern teaching stage; on the other hand, we can understand how to use the functional approach into Senior Chinese Teaching.
