Along with the rapid rise of China and promotion of the national policies,the number of foreign learners who study Chinese as a second language in China keep increasing in the past decade.However,the amount of foreign learners in Xi'an is even less than one-tenth of the number of foreign students studying in Beijing.Xi'an is not only an ancient capital of thirteen dynasties,but also the starting point of the ancient Silk Road.There is deep cultural heritage and rich educational resources.So it owns natural advantage and potential to develop Chinese teaching.The policy of “the Belt and Road Initiatives” will promote the development of Xi'an into an international metropolis,which will bring great opportunities to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language in Xi'an,but also follow great challenge.After years of practice,universities in Xi'an has accumulated experience and received some achievements in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,but by contrast,the teaching effect of Middlebury Language-Teaching Model is much more efficient.The Princeton In Beijing Chinese Program(PIB)is a typical mode of Middlebury Language-Teaching Model.PIB is the earliest launched and most famous short-term Chinese training program in China.It has high teaching efficiency and already accumulated a series of complete and scientific teaching system.Its teaching mode and management is well worthy for universities of Xi'an district to learn from.But the colleges in Xi 'an have their own characteristics and the objective reality,it is not scientific to copy and imitate all of the PIB program.Intermediate grade is the crucial stage of transition from primary to senior level in Chinese learning and the amount of students in intermediate level is large.The teaching mode of Grade two in PIB program is very effective in improving students' Chinese level and preparing for further study in a short time.Therefore,this article will take the teaching mode of Grade two in PIB program as an example to compare with the Chinese language teaching mode in collages of Xi'an from the macro and micro two dimensions in order to find the differences and similarities.And explore how to promote teaching Chinese as a foreign language in collages of Xi'an by integrating the advantages of PIB program and local characteristics of Xi'an.
