The success of Middlebury’s Summer Language Schools has significant implications for Chinese language teaching in the United States and China. In recent years, a group of American Projects in China appeared, for instance:PIB, CIB, HBA, UW, etc., these projects based on the Middlebury Mode, mainly adopted the way of Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools, provided a real Chinese learning environment for the college students from the United States, adopting the immersion teaching methods to strengthen the teaching to students, in order to make the students master the target language in a short time. The success of this mode was well known, however, as for the problems existed in this mode, few researchers could put forward meticulous and effective suggestions for improvement. Therefore, this thesis adopted the case study method, observation method and comparative method to compare the "Middlebury Mode" with their own teaching mode and "Skill guide teaching mode", aiming to analyze the advantages and disadvantages, and then tentatively made three suggestions for improvement according to the practical experience of the author in the summer Chinese learning project of Wisconsin University. This paper mainly divided into four parts:Firstly, introduction; Secondly, analysis of the learning process of "Middlebury Mode" Chinese summer school; Thirdly, the lack of "Middlebury Mode" and improvement strategy; Fourth, the conclusion.
