As the promotion of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, moreand more international students begin to learning Chinese as their secondlanguage. Therefore, the phenomenon of “the enthusiasm in learning Chinese”occurred, even numerous foreign educational institutions offer Chinese courseswhich they classify into “Teaching long-term basis” and” Teaching short-termbasis” according to students’ learing time. In the process of learning Chinese, pronunciation is the foundation of this language that is considered as a priority forforeign students ’ exposure to Chinese, which can directly impact on the quality oflearning enthusiasm.Because of writer’s teaching experience in Chinese international school inZambia, this thesis selects12Zambia students who come from3distinct stages inlearning Chinese as study objects in order to investigate their acquisition ofChinese initials, finals and tones. We analyse pronunciation errors by knowledgeof experimental Phonetics and attempt to looking for causes by comparison withlanguage, second language acquisition theory and interlanguage theory, after thatwe afford the most effectively teaching strategies.Zambia was a British colony and official language is English, we describe thenative languages in Zambia named CIBEMBA and CINYANJA, which students wholearn Chinese in this school use. We consider that students’pronunciation errorsnot only come from the influence of English, but also were affected by their motherlanguage. Although Zambia students make the same pronunciation errors as theother students of English-speaking countries have made, they have their ownfeatures which are different from other countries in this kind of unique context. This thesis investigates Zambia students’Chinese pronunciation using listeningtest and recording test, whose results are used to formulate a chart named “intervallevel of average errors rate” to guide the Chinese language learning. We also followthe principles of Chinese and compare them with native languages in Zambia andEnglish to provide available learning strategies for students with the help ofknowledge of another major named Broadcasting and Hosting in order to raise thestudents’ language level.
