In1990, emotional intelligence as a popular word is widely promoted. Emotionalintelligence dimensions include ability to recognize and control self emotion, ability to judgeand apply others’ emotion, and ability to deal with interpersonal relations. The ability toregulate and control self emotion and ability to judge and apply others’ emotion based onjudgment of others’ facial expression and internal feelings, with proper management of selfemotion, ability to resist stress, self concentration, attention and degree of intention for successat the core, play a significant role in students’ academic performance. This study, on the basis ofstudies on nature of emotion, core emotion, academic emotion and emotional intelligence, triesto explore the relations of “cultivating the ability to control emotion” and “improving academicperformance”.Emotional intelligence theories are very rich, the three representatives of which are: thetheory of emotional intelligence put forward by Salovey and Mayer, the emotional intelligencetheory of Goleman–which is orientated by work performance, and the emotional intelligencetheory of Bar-On–which is personality orientated. The theories on emotional intelligenceintegrated the main ideas of the emotional and intellectual studies: intelligence in intelligencetheory refers to the ability containing abstract reasoning; emotion in the emotion research fieldrefers to a kind of signal conveying the interpersonal rules and recognizable meanings, which isthe most popular of many emotions (Mayer, Salovey, and Camso,2002). In1998, Golemanpublished his Working with Emotional Intelligence, in which he puts forward the structure ofemotional competence and defines emotional competence as “the ability helping people achieveexcellent results, formed through learning and with emotional intelligence as the foundation”.Bar-On put up with the expression “Emotional Intelligence” in his doctoral thesis in1988. Hethought that the emotional intelligence is the combination of emotional social knowledge andability and affects ability to effectively deal with environmental needs; Bar-On used emotionalquotient to represent emotional intelligence and defined emotional intelligence as (1997): aseries of non-cognitive ability, competence and skills which influence individual’s ability tosuccessfully deal with environmental demands and stress. He also thinks emotional intelligence is an important factor determining whether a person can be successful in the life and directlyaffecting a person’s mental health.Take the369students of8classes on the same level in ZhaoYuan No.1Middle School, all of whom are senior high school freshman. Both groups are assessed twice for theiremotional quotient and academic performance, and students in experimental group accepted thetraining on emotional intelligence knowledge..Emotional intelligence training can be carried outin various ways, mainly including teaching the basic knowledge and skills training. We haveintroducted to students of self hypnosis, music influence, and the managerial art of humanrelationship. And ways of which is also called heart anchor, method ABC theory of emotion. The experiment turns out that:1. Emotional quotient is positively related to the overall academic performance, excellentperformance is inseparable from high emotional quotient. Showing that it is meaningful tocultivate emotional intelligence.2. The influence of emotional quotient on different subjects differs as a result of differentsubject properties. The emotional intelligence influences the subjects differently and influencessome notably while others slightly.3. The pressure resistance of emotional management is closely related to the influence tothe academic performance. The humanism teaching focused on students is an inevitable trend.4. The influence of intentional attention and the emotional quotient dimension of judgingothers’ emotion on academic performance are significant. This suggests that non-intelligencefactor plays an important role in the process of learning.5. Training on emotional intelligence has available ways. To train EQ in a planned waythen emotional intelligence can be enhanced relatively quickly, and the academic performancecan also be accordingly improved.
