Cultivating Middle School Students' Visual Literacy Teaching Design Case Study

Since the1980s,human society is entering into the visual culturetimes.The primary and secondary school students who live in thecontext of visual culture are facingthe different values of visualinformation every day.When we faced a new era of culture blending,Ian Brown the Oolong Gang University,Australia has written an article inorder to appeal to improve the cultivation of students’visual literacy.In the visual culture times, it requires us to use “Visual Literacy” todeal with a large amount of information.From this sense,“VisualLiteracy” has become an important learning way in the visual culturetimes. However, when we look around the various disciplines on theschool curriculum, it is not difficult to find that art disciplines have moreadvantages to cultivate students’ visual literacy.In this paper, I will put “Visual Literacy” training as a starting point,based on the art teaching in middle school and integrated artlanguage system with three-dimensional target.At the same time, I willuse constructivist learning strategies and methods andcomplete theunit teaching design and exploratory case research in accordancewith “the unit of research teaching”. After several exploratory teachingexperiments, I carried out a teaching experiment lasted two semester,one semester as a cycle whose theme is “my picture book” in order tocultivate students’ visual literacy and multicultural mentality andachieve the good teaching effect. Whether in the techniques oremotional level, the talent our student show is out of my expectation. Ithas left a valuable creative experience not only to student but also towriter himself.
