Football general course, as a major course in P.E profession, plays a very important role in teaching. For studying this course, students can master basic theories on techniques and skills of football general course directly affect the quality of cultivating the qualified students.Due to the historical causes, football teaching has been adopting the old-fashioned Russian pattern, which focuses on developing students’techniques and skills in the football competition. However, this pattern has not only restricted the students’abilities but also prevents teachers from reform of P.E teaching.Based on the investigation and analysis of the related information, files, and facts of P.E profession, by adopting investigation, documentation, mathematical statistics and referring to football general course in Chinese universities and colleges, this thesis makes a research on the reforming progress, the present situation, the developing tendency and the countermeasures.The results show the following:First, the gradually decreasing tendency of weighing technique over theory is the current characteristics of physical education curriculum setting in China. Meanwhile, the curriculum setting system will make the students master many skills while specializing in one. The system also has some other features like raising the proportion of compulsory courses while cutting the proportion of optional courses; and the socialization progress of the P.E. course is on the increase. Second, the arrangement of curriculum time, which is in accord with the principle of arranging the main required courses on the first two academic years, is quite reasonable. The courses time setting puts more emphasis on lecturing technique rather than practice. Third, after analyzing the importance of football compulsory course, three segments of practice teaching are concluded to be of more importance:instructing and training, touchline instructions and referee intern. Compared with teaching competition and physical training, technique instructing and practicing are more important. As to theory, competition organization and overview on the definition of football are relatively important; training theories and strategies, scientific research method, rules and referee methods are more important; and teaching theories and strategies, technique theories are the most important. It is found from the study of football teaching difficulty that in practice teaching, touchline instruction, referee intern and tactics teaching and training is of the most difficulty; teaching practice and teaching competition are of moderate difficulty; and physical training and technique instructing and training are of less difficulty. While in theory teaching, the rules, referee method and scientific research method are the most difficult; teaching theories and strategies, training theories and strategies, and football tactics theories are moderate difficult; and technique theories, competition organization and overview of football are less difficult. Fifth, in cultivating students’capability, football compulsory course gives priority to teaching theories and techniques and bases on fostering students’special skills, which is not conducive to students’ ability of practice and innovation. Sixth, the teaching evaluation method and evaluation subject, which often are mainly summative assessment and teacher assessment, are always simplex and thus ignore students’individual differences and their subject positions.Basing on the results of this thesis and combining the present situation and the developing tendency with the requirements of football general course,the author suggests the following: changing the RE teaching; expanding the teaching contents and developing the role of courses; scientifically choosing teaching means; improving the contents of assessments and forming multi-aspect assessing methods.
