Straightening is the process that the plate is bent under the action of the rollers, withelastic-plastic deformation of the plate, to make the plate tend to flat. With the rapiddevelopment of the national economy and national defence industry, the demand formedium and heavy plate has increased continuously in our country. Leveling has becomean important finishing process for medium and heavy plate production. Plate levelerbecomes an important equipment which guarantees the quality of medium and heavy plate. With the wide application for TMCP technology, leveling temperature is lowered, andyield strength of materials is increased, so higher requirements in terms of strength, stiffness, function and degree of automation of the plate leveler are put forward.Take a new generation11-roller hot plate leveler for example, the paper identifiedanalytical model of hot plate leveling, and simulated the hot plate leveling process withthe method of FEM to get a better leveling scheme. Main contents of the paper areintroduced below:Based on the relationship between stress and strain when plate is elastic-plastic bent, reasonable assumptions and the geometrical relationship between elastic-plasticdeformation and curvature of plate in the leveling process, the paper identified therelationship between bending and moment of plate and the calculation method of thebending deflection. It also introduced the leveling scheme of leveler, the determinationmethod of each straightening roll reduction and the calculation method of the levelingforce. With the FEM simulation of hot plate leveling by using LS-DYNA software, thepaper analyzed the leveling force and the distribution of stress in the process of levelingand the leveling effect on the plates of different thicknesses under different levelingschemes, including the residual stress and the final flatness of the medium and heavy plate. The paper researched the effect of the original curvature of the plate on the final flatnessand the relationship between the final flatness of the plate and plastic deformation rate.By the FEM simulation of hot plate leveling from aspect of process, the papershowed hot plate leveling process relatively completely. This can provided reference of leveling rolls adjustment to actual production.
