With the rapid development of technology, the LCD glass is wildly used in all areas inour daily life and the LCD glass has gradually become an integral part of a material inhigh-tech fields. More and more attention is paid to glass cutting because of high efficiency,low cost and precise glass parts with various shapes. As we know that the character of Highhardness and brittleness that make it difficult to machine. The current glass cutting methodsmainly including laser cutting technology,Water jet machining technology and mechanicalcutting method. The Laser cutting technology is a highly non-linear process and the cuttingquality affected by many factors which make the processing unstability. The Water jetmachining is of low velocity,poor quality affected by many factors.Compare with the formermethod,the mechanical cutting technology is traditional method of LCD Cutting. It is easy togenerate fragment and micro cracks with this method. In order to improve the machiningprecision of the part surfaces, the initiation and propagation laws of glass cracks in specimenssubject to normal loading by symmetric wedges were investigated. The mainly research workin this paper are summarized as follows:(1) A series of static indentation researches was carried out with the symmetric wedgeindenter. The project using a digital microscope and measurement software to observe theprocess of crack generation and extension with quantitative and qualitative research. Therelationship between the length of the crack and the angle of the indenter, the load thatapplied at the top of the glass substrates was investigated. The results show that the length ofthe crack increased with the increasing of the load.(2)The critical load of the median crack has been researched with pressing LCD glassspecimen The plastic indentation will obtain.(3) The Secondary indentation was conducted with the symmetrical wedge indenterwhich based on the first research. The experimental results show that the Secondaryindentation can improve the length of the crack. It provides theoretical supports for the cuttingmethod of LCD glass with double wheel. (4) A new method of LCD glass cutting was put forward with double normal wheel,thecutting feed amount impact on vertical crack was studies in condition of different wheel.The experimental results show that the proposed of the new method of glass cutting canreduce the cost successfully.
