The universal quantification expressions are very common in modern chinese, such as universal determiners, The repeated form of measure word, interrogative word, negative word, antonymous compound words can also express universalquantification. This paper discusses universal quantification on antonymouscompound words in detail and divided into five parts:Chapter one is the preface of the paper, which introduces the purpose, thesignificance of this paper, previous studies, methods, and corpus sources, etc.Chapter two focuses on the research of grammatical features of morphemes andsyntactic function of antonymous compound words. Firstly, it defines what is uiversalquantification of antonymous compound words, scendly, analyses the part of speech ofmorphemes and conversion phenomena on antonymous compound words which canexpress uiversal quantification, especially the convention on adj-adj morpheme, mostof which can transfer to noun, some tranfer to adv in the development of semantic.Thirdly, we discuss about the syntactic function.Chapter three analyses the features of universal quantification of antonymouscompound words and then discuss the cognitive interpretation of it. Integrity, abstraction and subjectivity are three features of universal quantification ofantonymous compound words. Metonymy, metonymy and then metaphor, subjectiveare three main reasons to interpret it.Chapter four focus on the gradience of universal quantification of antonymouscompound words and analyses the evolution of modality. We divided it into threegradiences: X1X2a、X1X2b、X1X2c, the uses of antonymous compound words in X1X2a andX1X2b are relatively simple but the uses of antonymous compound words in X1X2c arecomplicated, which can express modality. And different antonymous compoundwords show different degree of strength of modality, which can classified into fourdegrees: A﹤B﹤C﹤D. We choose one word from each degress, namely “daxiao(大 小)”,“chizao(迟早)”,“gaodi(高低)”,“zuoyou(左右)”, and then analyses the theevolution of the modality.Chapter five is the conclusion which summarizes our viewpoints, explains thevalue and the innovation of this thesis, and raises some relevant questions.
