On May24,2012, Department of State of the United States publishes Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for2011and makes critical remarks on human rights situation in nearly200countries and regions all over the world once again. It distorts and blames China’s human rights cause, but it turns a blind eye to and doesn’t mention the poor human rights situation of itself. In order to let the world know the US’s real human rights situation and urge the United States to rethink its deeds, we specially publish Human Rights Record of the United States in2011. And a qualified English version of it is necessary and important. This is a report on translating excerpts from Human Rights Record of the United States in2011, in which I achieved some translation strategies and methods for the informative text.Reiss proposed the text type theory, which divides the text into four types:they are informative text, expressive text, operative text and andiomedial text. Human Rights Record of the United States in2011belongs to informative text, therefore., translation and analysis will be guided by text type theory.This report includes four chapters:Chapter One is the introduction, includes the content of the original text, the significance of the translation and the structure of the report. Chapter Two is the research background, includes a brief introduction of the text type theory and its enlightenment for translation, the analysis of original text, preparations for translation and a brief summary of this part. Chapter Three is the translation analysis, includes language function, language dimension, text focus of informative text, the aims of translated text, translation method of informative text and a brief summary of this part. Chapter Four serves as the conclusion, includes the lessons and the problems to be solved.
