Pipa, is one of the oldest ancient musical instruments in China, has rich artistic expressive force and unique art form. It is an important member of Chinese plucked instruments. After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Pipa art genre gradually formed, and gradually established the different characteristics basis for civil and military tunes of performance. After nineteenth Century, the modern Pipa genre evolved, civil and military tunes had further developed.Chinese Pipa music is full of cultural beauty, historical beauty, and the beauty of human nature. Traditional civil tune of Pipa has rich cultural implication. Whether it is allegro or adagio, the music is generally simple and vigorous, and the melody is tuneful. the tunes of scenery description of a music piece is generally bright, with a smooth melody; the love music generally express emotions by relating to scenery, mostly with a plaintive mood, therefore the melody in general is slower; the narrative music taking folk tales and legends as script, commonly creates lingering melody, with a strong narrative characteristics. Traditional civil tune of Pipa shows the profound emotion with simple and touching melody, the full use of push, pull, yin, rubbing technique brings out its feminine beauty of calm and ease. Traditional military tune mostly has stories and is programmatic. It often describes on a scene-by-scene synopsis basis, showing specific storyline, and narrates stories; the music structure produces immersed sense for us as in the cold steel battlefields. The structure is magnificent and the melody is imposing. This kind of music often applies literary titles, creates rich imagination space. It is good at using the skills of twisted strings and shaxian to simulate various sound effects, thus successfully shaping the described image. It hits off the masculine beauty with a majestic and passionate ways of performance. Chinese Pipa music conveys traditional views and spirit of Chinese traditional aesthetics from two aspects.This paper examines the feminine beauty of civil tune and the masculine beauty of military tune, from the perspective of Chinese traditional aesthetic. It exploies the historical, cultural and technological factors of aesthetic characteristics formation for Pipa music. Combined with aesthetics of the book of "Zhouyi", this paper investigates the theories of "Yang" and "Yin","rigidity" and "flexibility". Through the study of "Xi shan qinkuang", it looks at the effect of Guqin aesthetics on the performance of Pipa.
