The task-based learning method is a modern learning/teaching method thatfocuses on the student. One of it’s strongest points is that it is much more interestingfor the students than the more traditional methods. It is very popular both in Chinaand many other countries. The goal of this paper is to find out how a teacher shoulduse task based language teaching methods (TBLT) and which methods should beapplied to use TBLT with maximum effect. Thus, in this paper we are going toaccumulate research data and based on this data try to determine how TBLT should beused. We are to do research on the use of TBLT in advanced Chinese conversationclasses. However, our goal is not only to focus on the teaching process in theclassroom, we also intend to pay attention to the composition of homework andexaminations. We want to stress that learning how to speak a foreign language is notonly a matter of education in the classroom, but is also a matter of practice. We alsowant to bring to the readers‘attention certain principles that need to be respectedwhen compiling a TBLT material.We will start by understanding TBLT in theory. By understanding specifics ofTBLT we will be able to better understand how it should be used. We will thencontinue by applying this knowledge in praxis by doing field research in form oflesson analysis and questionnaire analysis.Not all teachers comprehend the full potential of TBLT, and textbooks usuallyalso don’t provide much guidance. Furthermore, Chinese classroom oriented researchis not nearly as popular as English classroom oriented research, with this thesis wehope to help at least partially mitigate these problems.In the first chapter we will make clear what our goals are and also understand theover all situation concerning task based language teaching. In the second chapter wewill focus on the specifics of TBLT that make it different from other teachingmethods. Third chapter will consist of a survey and it’s analysis. In the fourth chapter we will use all the acquired knowledge to provide guidelines on how to teach usingTBLT and also how to compile TBLT teaching materials.Among other things we want to prove that TBLT usage and research should notonly be limited to the beginner level. Our main goal, however, is to help foreignstudents studying in China polish their Chinese to the ideal level faster and lessstresfully by helping their teachers better understand TBLT.
