Experimental study of tone has developed rapidly since late twentieth Century, and is mainly concentrated in the field of Chinese dialect tone. There are few achievements by tone experiment to explore the tone of Xiangxi Hmong language. In this paper,we use the method of experimental phonetics to study the monosyllabic tone of Xiangxi Hmong language in three towns(Aizhai,Majing’ao,Paichou) in Jishou with the purpose of counting the dialects tone values in Jishou and promoting the study of Xiangxi Hmong language. This paper is divided into three parts which has5chapters:The first part is an introduction.which is Chapter1.Firstly,we introduce the meaning and scope, methods and processes of this research,as well as the tone experimental theory. Then we summarize the research status of Xiangxi Hmong language tone. Finally,we introduce The geographical positions and the distribution of Xiangxi Hmong dialects in Jishou. The second part which is from Chapter2to Chapter4focuses on the contents and details of the experimental study, for example the experimenter and the monosyllable tone table. Then we use the Adobe Audition3.0to recording and the Praat to analyse and Excel2003to handle the data.On the one hand we use ND-values to treatment duration, on the other hand we transform Lz-values to RD-values by which we can make the tone structure diagram and transform them to five levels. Finally, we compare them with the conclusions of traditional dialectology. The last part is chapter5which is the conclusion. We conclude the final results which are values of Xiangxi Hmong language subdialects tone in three towns, and list the strengths and weaknesses of the current experimental approach, and propose the future study of experimental study.
