The “Separable word” is a very special Chinese phenomenon whichhas been debated widely. It can use as both a word and as a phrase, so it iscalled “separable word”. Separable word doesn’t have a correspondingform in other languages, its usage is complicated and difficult, whic isone of the difficult points of Chinese language. This paper has referred tomany theory researches to investigate how native English students masterthe verb-object separable words and the causes of errors through students’composition and questionnaire.This article includes six chapters: the first chapter is an introductionwhich introduces the research object, the research scope, research designand relevant document study of the separable Verb-object separable word.The second chapter is analysis of native English students Verb-objectseparable word usage including the student composition corpus andsurvey of its usage and the classified errors. The third chapter isVerb-object separable word analysis and features. It contrasts theVerb-object separable words in English and Chinese to summarize thesimilarities and differences and analyses characteristic. The fourth chapteris the causes of the errors. The fifth chapter is the corresponding teachingstrategies. The sixth chapter is a conclusion, which mainly elaboratesthe study way of thing and the text that has not yet been discussed deeply.
