With the advent of big data era, every trade goes into their own informatization periodscorrespondingly. There is no doubt that whether the retrieval or the use of information hasbrought unprecedented development to most users. Under this circumstances, universitylibrary, as an information collection place, should all the more take the lead. How to gather,organize, provide and use the information better so as to serve most information users better,under the current situation, will face new challenges."Embedded Discipline Service" justcomes into being in this environment. This service originated from foreign warcorrespondents, and then evolved into a service gradually. What is "Embedded DisciplineService"? Its core refers to that facing with current information environment as well as thenew situation of the knowledge innovation, university library, as a result, integrates its serviceinto the user’s environment actively, helping the users provide the service for research,teaching and learning. Broadly speaking, the purpose of Embedded Discipline Service isproviding a guarantee for the information environment for uses’ personalized informationdemand.Current domestic universities have carried out their own Embedded Discipline Service.For the development condition of each university, this survey report mainly investigates thecondition from two perspectives of developing content and practice way. As for thedeveloping content, domestic university library primarily involves three aspects of research,teaching and learning, among which research plays a dominant role. As for the practice way,the main form includes the serve mode of the discipline platform, the subscription and push ofRSS, palm mobile library, etc. Through the survey, it can be found that the EmbeddedDiscipline Service, in terms of the over-all situation, is still in the initial stage, and eachservice remains to be polished and completed. For example, there still exists great defects inthe integrity embedding of teaching and research progress. For different disciplines, it can’tensure that all majors can construct the corresponding platforms. It has adopted the samplesurvey method in this report, which draws50institutions randomly from domestic universities, including30"211" colleges and20ordinary ones. Through logining in the librarywebsite of each college respectively, it helps to collect their own developing conditions. Forthe above results, it makes horizontal and vertical analysis contrastively, summarizes theadvantages, concludes the disadvantages, and puts forward the specific improvementmeasures correspondingly, so as to help each university get the relevant reference andpromotion according to their own defects, and simultaneously bring the affirmation andencouragement for the development of the library “Embedded” Service in future.
