Natural gas as an important energy source around the world is a necessity of life, which playing an important role in the national economy and people’s daily life. With the increase of natural gas production, the infrastructure of natural gas transportation is also ongoing. The best way to transport natural gas is pipeline, and the construction of natural gas pipeline will be the top priority of China’s future energy construction.Theoptimaldesign on main technological parameters is paid more attention in the design technology of natural gas pipeline now, but the effect of temperature on the optimaldesign of natural gas pipeline is ignored, especiallyground temperature. The effect of ground temperature on pipeline parameters is researched based on the process calculation of actual pipe instances, and optimal design thinking of process system for natural gas pipeline is proposed. Using gas supply line of Urumqi Petrochemical Company(UPC) as an example, the hydraulic calculation model is built by SPS software to simulate the pipeline process system. The effect of ground temperature on pipeline system is analyzed by the thermodynamic calculation of hydraulic system for UPC pipeline, and the effect of ground temperature on the optimaldesign of natural gas pipeline is obtained. The computation results show that the effect of ground temperature on pipeline system cannot be ignored for long-distance gas pipeline. The rational use ofground temperature can realize the optimal design of pipeline. This optimal design method can provide a suggestionwhenthe pipeline is longer, the gas temperature is easily influenced by low temperature, and the heating equipment should be added.
