Objective:To investigate and evaluate nutritional status and physical development of preschool children of Uygur and to provide the evidence for improving nutritional intervention and the reasonable suggestions in Uygur areas. Methods:By the randomized cluster sampling methods,787children aged at3to6were selected from Moyu county in Hetian area.1.By using methods of questionnaire survey and three days weighing dietary investagation to understand the related information and nutritional status of children, and the data was analyzed and evaluated at Chinese dietary guide, Chinese DRIs and the collective dietary standard of "Health care nursery kindergarten work norms".2. The children’s physical indicators were measured, and the data was compared with the national survey growth of children’s in nine cities of China in2005. Assessment of growth with the mean devation method and Z score.Analysis of factors related to the physical development of children from the results.3. The contents of five mineral of preschool children were determined with Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, and measure the content of blood Haemoglobin by Cyanmethemoglobin to understand the mineral deficiency and the anemia prevalence of children Analysis of the relationship between physical development, haemoglobin content and mineral content of children by the determination results. Results:1. Dietary pattern of the subjects was mainly of grains which up to standard and inadequate intake of other foods, but without Aquatic products intake, and therefore the diet structure of the Uygur preschoolers is irrational.Various nutrient content were compared with two standard, including energy(60.77%,75.96%), protein(53.07%,66.33%) and fat(78.16%,96.04%), high-quality protein proportion of the total protein intake was15.71%. Or even various types of insufficient intakes of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and calcium intake minimum, the proportion of11.21%,14.02%and11.09%,13.86%.2. Results evaluated by mean of deviation method showed that:the rate of retarded growth was20.67%, the rate of the low weight was3.10%, the rate of weight losing was1.03%, the rate of excess nutrition was6.98%, overweight/obesity rate was7.24%; results of Z score evaluation:the rate of retarded growth was22.74%, the rate of the low weight was5.43%, the rate of weight losing was1.03%, the rate of excess nutrition was6.20%, the overweight/obesity rate was8.53%. There is some relationship between the physical development of children and family status, mother’s education is one of the factors that make children at protect of low birth weight;3.the rate of low blood calcium was46.67%, the rate of the low blood magnesium was2.59%, the rate of the low blood iron was95.19%, the rate of low serum copper was2.59%, the rate of low blood zinc was17.41%; the prevalence rate of anemia was10.44%. Serum calcium, iron, copper, magnesium in blood were positively correlated with physical development, iron and copper was positively related to hemoglobin content; while the serum calcium and magnesium in blood were negatively related to hemoglobin content. Conclusion:Dietary of Uygur preschool children in Hetian region of Xinjiang was intake, physical development level is low, mineral deficiency rate and anemia rate were higher than other areas in the province, improvement of nutritional status is in need.
