Objective: In order to develop the mental health work in Shijiazhuang, this survey was conducted to understand the status of mental health knowledge and the attitude to mental disorder in inhabitants of Shijiazhuang, to discuss the relevant factors of awareness about mental knowledge and the attitude to Psychosis.Methods: Using multistage sampling method, two districts in Shijiazhuang(Qiaoxi District and Yuhua District)were selected, then 1000 individuals aged above15 years old were selected from the two districts. The 1000 individuals were mainly consisted of doctors, nurses, students, professional and technical staff and workers.The subjects were investigated between January, 2014 and December, 2014. The survey was used personal basic information questionnaire, Mental Health Knowledge Questionnaire, and Attitude to Mental Illness Questionnaire.The data was collected by EXCEL. It was analyzed by SPSS18.0. The collected data of Mental Health Knowledge Questionnaire and Attitude to Mental Illness Questionnaire was described separately by proportion and x ±s. The intergroup comparisons were analyzed separately by chi-square test and t or F test, the Alpha value was 0.05.Results:1 Mental health knowledge awareness rateThe mental health knowledge awareness rate was 76.91% in residents of Shijiazhuang.The rate of basic awareness was 66.9%,the rate of partial awareness was 30.9%, and the rate of less awareness was 2.2%.2 Distribution of mental health knowledge awareness rateThe mental health awareness rate of female was more prevalent than male(c2=48.479,P<0.001). The mental health awareness rates showed significant differences in the factors of educational background, occupation and living time(c2=35.194,P<0.001;c2=178.514,P<0.001;c2=45.951,P <0.001).3 The current situation of attitude to mental illnessThe average score of attitude to mental illness was 35.78 in residents of Shijiazhuang and the standard deviation was 5.46. The rate of positive attitude to mental illness was 36.75%. The rate of negative attitude to mental illness was 33.5%. The rate of neutralizing attitude to mental illness was 29.75%.4 Distribution of attitude to the mental disorderThere was no significant difference in the scores of attitude to the mental illness between male and female(t=-0.071,P=0.943). There was no significant differences in the scores of attitude to the mental illness from high school to college and above in terms of education level(F=0.918,P =0.400). Students’ attitude toward mental illness was better(t=-3.466,P=0.001).Residents living in the area of time in 1-5 years had a better attitude to mental illness(F=7.439, P<0.001).Conclusion:1 The mental health knowledge awareness rate in Shijiazhuang City was 76.91%.2 The proportion of Shijiazhuang citizens who adopted positive attitude to mental illness was 36.75% and the rate was relatively low.3 In the urban residents of Shijiazhuang, the mental health knowledge awareness and the attitude towards mental disorders were affected by occupa- tion, living time and so on.
