Objective:Heart failure in the elderly population has become increasingly common in China, so to use an appropriate biomarker that we can identify patients with heart failure quickly and prognosis of patients with heart failure is significant. Cystatin C as a cysteine protease inhibitor, is used to be considered as a sensitive indicator of early renal dysfunction. Recent studies have found that Cystatin c has a closely relation with the occurrence, development and prognosis of heart failure.The purpose of this study was to study the diagnostic value of serum cystatin C in patients with heart failure, and to assess whether serum cystatin C can provide prognostic information for patients with heart failure.Methods:In this study, we have done a retrospective research with patients with heart failure in the fifth affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University. the occurrence of mortality and/or heart failure readmission was registered. Two hundred seventynine patients (median age 75 years, interquartile range 56 to 84; 53% men) were studied. The study end point was defined as the combination of mortality and/or heart failure readmission. Continuous variables were tested for a normal distribution using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Normally distributed data are presented as mean_SD and non-normally distributed data as medians with interquartile ranges. Categorical variables are expressed as percentages. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 19.0 for Windows(SPSS, Inc., Chicago, Illinois). Results and Conclusion:Through the analysis, we know that the level of serum cystatin C is significant predictors of adverse clinical events in patients with heart failure, and associated with increase the speed of clinical adverse events. Serum cystatin C has a significant correlation.with the higher risk of death and heart failure readmission.
