Objective:HIV epidemic in China has been expanding from high-risk groups to the general population. With more and more people living with HIV or AIDS patients presenting in primary medical institutions, health care workers will more frequently contact with them during the process of diagnosis and treatment for them. Increasing risk for occupational exposure to HIV among medical staff has becoming serious problem. Through investigating the status of occupational exposure to HIV in health care workers in Taicang No.1People’s Hospital and analyzing the main problems occurred in the protection of HIV, this study is to explore protective measures for health care workers against HIV occupational exposure and to reduce risk for exposure to HIV while at work, so as to improve the quality of medical care.Method:HIV-positive patients from2010to2013treated in Taicang No.1People’s Hospital and the accidents of occupational exposure happened in2013were investigated by retrospective review. The situations of emergency treatment and protective measures taken for health care workers at risk of exposure to HIV were studied by review of two accidents of HIV occupational exposure and one case of HIV positive patients accepted operation in that hospital. Through survey with self-designed questionnaire, we established database via EXCEL and performed statistical analysis via SPSS11.8among which descriptive analysis were mainly droped.Result:1. Total48treated patients has been screened as HIV positive from2010to2013by the diagnosis of primary hospital and16patients of whom were confirmed as HIV positive by Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Two accidents of occupational exposure to patients screening for HIV positive happened in health care workers.2. The ratio of occupational exposures to HIV happened in the hospital in2013are mainly composed of sharp injury, and nursing staff working within three years is at high risk for exposure to HIV.3. Questionnaire survey for the medical staff in the hospital suggests their lacking awareness of risks during occupational exposure.Standard preventive measures haven’t be strict enforced especially emergency management for the screening HIV positive patients.Conclusion:There exists occupational exposure to HIV among health care workers in the primary hospital, which mainly to prevent the sharp injuries occupation exposure with nursing staff working within three years being at high risk for HIV infection.Various prevention system, measures, procession, and effective implementation against HIV, should be improved and reinforced especially the protection measures for the health care workers at high risk for HIV in the primary hospital.
