ObjectiveTo understand the status quo of cancer nursing specialized nurses’ psychological capital and nursing ability and explore the relationship between them.This paper was designed to provide a theoretical basis and policy reference for hospital managers who wants to improve their nurses’ in Cancer Hospital psychological capital while strengthening the ability of nursing. MethodsPurposive sampling method was used to extract 420 clinical nurses of three tumor hospitals in Henan Province as research subjects, the cross-sectional study of epidemiological methods was used.We carried out the survey from November in 2013 to January 2014. The study includes : ① Cancer Hospital clinical nurse general information; ② Hao Zhonghua’s revised 12 items Psychological Capital questionnaire; ③ Li Xuemei’s revised version of Nursing care Ability Scale. Establish a data base, SPSS 17.0 statistical software for data analysis, P=0.05, P values were two-sided probability. Using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, rank sum test and other assessments to propose clinical nurses’ nursing ability and psychological capital and exploring the correlation between them by correlation analysis,the use of hierarchical regression and ordered logistic regression analysis were used to know the impact of psychological capital to nurses’ nursing care capabilities. Results1. The Situation of psychological capital and nursing ability of tumor specialized nursesThe nurses’ psychological capital scores and four dimensions mean rank were: self-efficacy 4.67 points, hope 4.33 points, optimistic 4.67 points, total score were 4.42 points.The total score of Nursing ability were 74.77 ± 0.64, care procedures 70.88 ± 0.64, critical care 75.58 ± 0.69, health education 74.63 ± 0.67, interpersonal 77.96 ± 0.68, management capability 75.35 ± 0.67 and self-development 74.85 ± 0.68. The nursing ability were divided into five levels according to percentile scores : < 60( unqualified) 54, accounting for 13.4 percent;60 qualified 91, accounting for 22.7%;70 moderate 110 people, accounting for 27.6%;80 better 95,accounted for 23.8 percent;90 excellent 50 gifted people, accounting for 12.5%;People who scored 70 points are the most.2. The comparation of psychological capital on individual characteristicsThe psychological capital score of different sex was not statistically significant. The optimistic score in different ages, marital status, work experience, titles, clinical jobs, nurse employment nature were not statistically significant(P> 0.05).The scores of self-efficacy, hope, tenacity, score were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The scores of self-efficacy, toughness score of nurses with different study degrees were statistically significant and the scores of optimism, hope were no significant difference.The scores of psychological capital, self-efficacy, hope, tenacity, optimism with different income satisfaction and patient satisfaction were statistically significant(P <0.05).3. The comparation of nursing ability on individual characteristicsThe ability of different nurses’ scores on different education, marital status, job title, work experience, employment nature, clinical status and income satisfaction, patient satisfaction with nursing care were statistically significant(P <0.05). Among them, the nursing college or high school groups has higher ability score than graduate group of postgraduate students, postgraduate students has higher scores than the undergraduate group(P <0.05); The nurse who are 45 years has higher score than other agegroups(P <0.05);From nurse-care titles,the higher title ones have higher scores than the others(P <0.05); marital status of the other nurses scored higher than married, unmarried group scored higher than the married(P <0.05); formal group scored significantly higher than in group personnel agency, personnel agency group score higher than contract hire group the higher the score(P <0.05); different clinical job group with a teacher group care ward nurse and the ability to score higher than the above group, ward nurse and clinical nurse group than in the group above(P <0.05); wage satisfaction as very satisfied group of nursing ability to score significantly higher than in the rest of the group(P <0.05).4. The relationship between nursing ability and psychological capital cancer nursesThere were positive correlation between Psychological capital and nursing ability(|r|=0.2850.503,P﹤0.01); Hierarchical linear regression analysis showed that wage satisfaction, self-efficacy, optimism and toughness are the main factors that affect the ability of nurses in nursing; self efficacy, optimism and toughness of the three nursing ability were to predict the variation of 23.9%(R2 = 0.239). Ordered logistic regression analysis showed that self-efficacy, optimism and toughness have a positive correlation between the ability of nursing care. ConclusionsThe psychological capital score of nurses in cancer hospitals is at the upper level, there is still room for improvement. The managers of cancer hospitals can improve the clinical nurses’ psychological capital scores according to different individual characteristics such as age, working years, professional titles, marriage, work, employment, income satisfaction, the attitude to relationship between nurse and patient satisfaction and so on.The nursing ability score of nurses in cancer hospitals is in the middle level, still needing to be improved. The managers in cancer hospitals can also focus on clinical nurses who has lower age, lower education, less working years, lower professional title, less income satisfaction as targeted group need training to enhance the ability of nursing, to improve their ability of nursing. At the same time, because the cancer hospital nurses’ psychological capital has a positive effect on nursing ability, which can enhance the ability of nursing, nursing managers should carry out the psychological capital training in the hospital, popularize and improve the psychological capital of knowledge in order to improve nurses’ psychological capital so as to improve the nursing ability. Nurses themselves should attend the lectures about positive psychological capital to improve their psychological health,to take part in clinical practice positively.
