There are a great quantity of prepositions in both English and Chinese, which isused frequently in daily life. It is not easy for non-native speakers to learn how to useChinese prepositions while it is important to get to know the usage of that. On thebase of previous studies and the materials online, this thesis makes a comparativeresearch on English preposition “from” and Chinese preposition “Cong(从)” from theperspective of semantics, syntax, and pragmatics respectively, analyzes thesimilarities and differences between “from” and “cong(从)”, summarize the errortypes of the usage of Chinese preposition “cong(从)” from English-speaking learners,tell the causes of errors and make relevant teaching strategies.This paper can be devided into three main parts:The first part is an introduction, including the overview of the comparative studyof “from” and “cong(从)” at home and abroad, the background and the theorticsupport of the topic, the study subjects, research status, research significance of thethesis, innovation points, research ideas and research methodology.The second part makes a comparative analysis between “from” and “cong(从)”from the angle of semantics, syntax, and pragmatics.The third part summarizes the error types of the Chinese preposition “cong(从)”,the causes of errors and relevant teaching strategies.Through analysing and comprising, the author found that Chinese learners mixChinese preposition “cong(从)” with other Chinese prepositions is due to the negativetransfer of mother tongue “from”.
