This research project is based on field research in order to get the primary materials, and tries to account for the distribution, causes and origins of Chinese dialects in Xudian county by using historical comparative approach and sociolinguistics. This article firstly summarizes language situation in several representative countries, draws a distribution curve of dialects according to our investigation, and organizes three major types of vowels by charts.Secondly, it uses synchronic comparative to illustrates the causes and origins of Cuokouhu in Xundian dialects. Synchronic comparative are used to compare Xudian dialects and its neighboring languages, and it is very clearly-presented by lists. Mandarin of Southeastern China and Jianghuai are main subjects to compare. Mandarin of Southeastern China includes languages spoken in Kunming, Qujing, Zhaotong, Chengdu and Guiyang. Mandarin of Nanjing is on behave of mandarin of Jianghuai. So as to distinguish if they share the same origin of Cuokouhu vowels in Xundian dialects, we compare above languages and see wether they have the same origin or not. If judging from types if Cuokouhu vowels we can see they have the same origin, so that it can be used to know the origins of Cuokouhu in dialects in Dianzhong. This is a method that bases on one small county but studies the origins of the entire area of Dianzhong.Lastly, we will use sociolinguistics to analyze the variations of Cuokouhu in Xundian dialects. It is a cutting-edge method which can analyze the variations from different aspects like age, gender, occupation and education.
