Art plays an important role in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. As a bridge to connect the communication between nations, art translation is indispensable. In this situation, an increasing number of best artistic works and books have been translated and introduced in China. As the specific features of artistic text, art translation is very professional. It also contains cross-cultural expressions at the significance and context levels. So translators need to adopt appropriate translation strategies and methods during the art translation. In this regard, discussions and analysis of art translation are necessary for its improvement. This report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of 1000 Drawings of Genius, and it mainly discusses difficulties and methods during the translation practice.This report thoroughly analyses the difficulties and presents some methods employed during the translation of artists’ names, artistic works, and artistic terminology. The applicability of Newmark’s translation theory in art translation is also discussed in this report. According to the practice and analysis, the author realized the importance of pre-translation process. Translation of proper nouns and artistic terms mainly require translators’ skills of literature reference and searching. Besides, communicative translation is more acceptable to render the exact content to readers. Translation methods such as omission, supplement, and division are needed to polish the translation. Through this practice, the author hopes to provide some useful references.
