In the digital era, the Internet has been deeply embedded in every traditional industry, which brings the teaching practice a thriving vitality.Nowadays the interaction of the network and Teaching Chinese as a Second Language has become a normal state."Virtual reality technology, because of its fantastic charm, will become an important means of language teaching." With the development of two-dimensional network to three-dimensional network, the application of virtual reality, which specializes in simulating virtual environment, will gradually shows its advantages. Therefore, we should follow new technologies, new tools for teaching Chinese as we teaching, making use of which to help improve language learning effect.It is a new research topic to apply virtual reality to language teaching. Second Life is a relatively mature platform of virtual world. Since the appearance of Second Life in 2003, it has attracted considerable attention of the field of Linguistics. Some of the teachers and researchers has taken action to practice teaching Chinese in this brand new virtual environment.On the basis of existing research, this paper interprets the necessity and elements of the application of virtual reality in teaching Chinese as a Second language. Through case studies and comparative analysis English teaching virtual island Cypris Chat and Chinese learning virtual island Chinese Island, the paper sums up the advantages and disadvantages of the using of Second Life.Of course, in order to fully tap the potentiality of virtual reality, much more teaching practice is needed and it also asks for higher technical support, as well as scientific teaching design. At the end of paper, it puts forward the corresponding improvement measures for the application of virtual reality in teaching Chinese as a second language.
