Translation should concentrate on the meaning and spirit of the source text, and it should not be confined to the form. We should measure a translation text according to the objective response of readers. We should make sure that the degree to which the readers of the translated version respond to it is in substantially the same manner as the readers of the source version, and the translation should not be wedded to the equivalence of form. Based on this, guided by the theory of functional equivalence, combined with the characteristics of children’s literature, this paper analyze how the rhetoric devices embody these characteristics, and take the Chinese translation of The Little Lame Prince as example, then expound some concrete methods of the translation of rhetoric devices in children’s literature.This paper first makes an overview of the Functional Equivalence Theory and its guiding significance for the translation of rhetoric devices in children’s literature, aiming at establishing the theoretical foundation for the analysis of the translation of rhetoric devices in children’s literature; Then it introduces the use of rhetorical devices in children’s literature, including analysis of the characteristics of children’s literature and its commonly used rhetorical devices; Finally, it analyze the translation practice of rhetorical devices in The Little Lame Prince in combination with the author’s translation practice, putting forward some concrete methods to translate the rhetoric devices in children’s literature such as:literal translation, annotation, free translation, etc. Therefore, based on the application of functional equivalence theory in the translation practice, this paper will be focused on studying the translation method of rhetoric devices in children’s literature.
