Translation Reports For Chapter 1 Of American Corrections: The Methods Of Translating Some Terms And Long Sentences

This is a translation report for Chapter 1 of American Corrections, tenth edition. This report summarizes the methods of translation on some terms of Corrections, such as treatment, rehabilitation and inmate. Besides, it gives some examples of long and difficult sentences’ translations and discusses the methods of dealing with them. The translation strategies —to divide, to change the word order, and to recombine the sentence structures all provide good solutions to translate long difficult sentences. American Corrections is quite a popular textbook for American Law School students. Since 1986, when American Corrections was first published, this dynamic field of Corrections has undergone many revolutions of both policy and practice. The science of Corrections is so rich in history, innovative in practice, and challenged by social problems. It deserves to be searched in a way for it is both interesting and significant. This report is aimed not only to summarize the author’s translation experience, but also to catch a glimpse of American Corrections.
