| To develop international Chinese education, the president of China Hu Jintao said, it’s key to cultivate qualified teachers. Qualified teachers is the foundation of promoting the steady development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and the key to developing Chinese in the world. At present our counry has certain standards for international Chinese teachers and researchers present a series of training advice and research conclusions. But it’s worthy concerning that whether the qualities and the abilities requested for Chinese teachers in different countries, regions and levels are different and whether they are competent to teach Chinese. This thesis studies the competence, explores the competence model of Chinese teachers in Thailand secondary schools, and analyses the differences between Chinese teachers who are best competent and those who are competent and more competent, and the current situation of the Chinese teachers’ competence.Through the analysis of investigation and comparison by using sociological statistics software SPSS22.0, this thesis draws the followingconclusions. First, the competence of international Chinese teachers in Thailand secondary school consists of five factors 21 items which are subject knowledge (professional knowledge, cultural knowledge, and self-resource management), career development (achievement motivation, learning ability, summarizing experience ability, reflecting ability and innovation ability), professional skills(teaching ability, teaching methods and skills, organizing and managing ability, textbook writing ability, the ability of stimulating and maintaining students’ interest and guiding ability), intercultural quality (intercultural sensitivity, intercultural communication and cooperation ability, intercultural adaptation and survival ability and Thai ability) and personal development (personal growth, personal traits and personal planning). Second, at present international Chinese teachers of Thailand secondary schools are a bit more competent to the task of teaching Chinese in Thailand secondary school, accounting for 58.0% of all international Chinese teachers of Thailand secondary schools with who are just competent accounting for 16.8% and who are best competent accounting for 24.4%. Third, the level of the competency of international Chinese teachers in Thailand secondary school is affected by gender, age, the length of time in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, major and so on. Relatively speaking, women teachers are more competent; teachers aging 25 to 34 are more competent than those who are under 25 years old;experienced teachers are more competent; the teachers whose majors are teaching Chinese as a foreign language or about teaching are more competent but the teachers majoring in English can be competent after being trained. Last, international Chinese teachers who are most competent are obviously different from both those who are just competent and those who are a little more competent in teaching ability, achievement motivation, cultural knowledge, teaching methods and skills, organizing and managing ability, textbook writing ability, the ability of stimulating and maintaining students’interest, guiding ability, personal traits, personal planning, intercultural sensitivity and intercultural communication and cooperation ability. |
