A Study Of Requirements On Acoustic Characteristics Of National Bass String Instrument

Choices of sound characteristics of national bass string instruments in national orchestra have been brought in discussion and raised disagreements between experts and scholars since 1950 s when improvement of national bass string instruments went in its full swing. The use of bass string instruments by Chinese national orchestra has always been a focus in relevant fields. From the angle of sound characteristics, this thesis aims to explore the matching effects of national bass string instruments with the sound of orchestra. Samples are picked and spectrum analysis are made among common instruments involved in string instrument group, wind instrument group and plucked instruments group of national orchestra. This thesis also offers a conclusive summary of different sound characteristics demonstrated by every instruments and the overall orchestra by combining objective data with subjective hearing. And on basis of this, the thesis thereby makes acoustic proposals on the sound characteristics of national bass string instruments.
