The form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao, originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty, is a kind of folk art based on Pingyao dialect and belongs to “Ban Qiang” system(板腔体). It is created by blind artists of Pingyao on the basis of the way of storytelling and absorbs colloquial local folk song tune after artistic processing. Due to the humorous and simple performance style, this form is deeply loved by the local people. The paper takes the language of the form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao as research object. On the basis of full survey, the paper first sorts out the phonetic system of this form and the phonetic system of the place of transmission and propagation of Pingyao dialect. Then the paper makes a comparison between the above two phonetic systems and between the phonetic system of this form and mandarin separately. The paper finds that the form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao is a kind of special social dialect after mandarinization based on Pingyao dialect.In view of the phenomena of literary and colloquial reading of the form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao, we combined synchronic and diachronic comparison method to analyze the features of literary and colloquial reading of the form. We applied quantitative method to analyze the literary and colloquial reading words in the form and finds that the form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao is more vulnerable to the influence of mandarin than Pingyao dialect. The form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao relatively complete retains the local vocabulary and grammar phenomena, and we proved this argument with examples. Through the investigation of the speech sounds of rhyming words in the form, we summarized twelve rhyme of the form of talking and singing with string instruments in Pingyao and analyses the characteristics of rhyme.
