Sense of shame is also called shame proneness. The related studies show that the people who are shame proneness have low self-esteem and self-efficacy and are more likely to produce psychological problems. As a stable psychological trait, sense of shame affects individual all aspects of life. When faced with negative events, the individuals with high sense of shame will conduct internal attribution of self denial, then they will produce a series of painful experience, such as sense of inferiority, sense of worthless and so on. When faced with difficulties, they tend to use more negative coping styles, such as denial, escape etc.The autobiographical memory is related to self. At present, the studies of the phenomenon of autobiographical memory over generalization are focused on people who have a traumatic experience and mood disorders. But from the related studies of the sense of shame, anxiety and depression, we can find the autobiographical memory of the people who are shame proneness may appear over generalization phenomenon. The middle school students are in a critical period for growing body and increasing knowledge. Neither their hearts nor their behaviors are very mature. In middle school groups, we distinguish between those who are easily shame proneness and those who are not, studying their characteristics of autobiographical memory. It is helpful for us to understand them. According to their characteristics, we can provide targeted education.The participants of the research are middle school students. The first experiment studies characteristics of autobiographical memory of the people with different sense of shame. On the basic of distinction between high sense of shame individuals and low sense of shame individuals, the second experiment studies the effect of emotional state on autobiographical memory. The conclusions are as follows:(1)Compared with low sense of shame individuals, the autobiographical memory of high sense of shame individuals is more general.(2)Clue word’s properties have an impact on individual autobiographical memory. The individual autobiographical memory is more specific on positive clue words than negative clue words.(3)Emotional states mainly influence individual specific memory on positive clue words. Positive emotional state can make individual autobiographical memory more specific, negative emotional state can make individual autobiographical memory more general. Individual autobiographical memory on negative clue words is not influenced by emotional state and is stable.(4)There is no significant difference on the influence of emotional state on autobiographical memory of the individuals with different sense of shame.
