Teaching Of British History In Chinese Universities During The Period Of Republic Of China

British History was the first World History course introduced into China. From the late 19th century to 1930s, the courses of British General History%British Dynasty History and British Specialized History were widely offered in Chinese universities, which was an important branch of World History Teaching. It reflected the influence of "Europe and America centered theory" upon college education in the Republic of China. However, influenced by contemporary political situation, its development could be divided into three periods. The research upon the course of British history offered in the different periods could highlight social and acadamic focus, Sino-British relationship and British international status, it could display the features of disciplinary planning during the Republic of China as well. Moreover, the texts and teaching staff of British history had distinct features of the era. The early teaching practice provided a basis for British English education in Chinese universities after 1949. However, the academia paid much less attention to British History education in universities during the Republic of China.This study will research in three aspects:British History course, texts and the teaching staff, in order to restore the situation of British History education with abundant historical facts in that period.The main body of this paper consists of four parts. The academic history of related research is reviewed so as to explain the significance of this research. Furthermore, the first chapter traces back to the history of British History course into China, and then analyses the feathers and causes of British History course in the early 1920s、1920s to 1930s and Anti-Japanese War to 1949 successively. The second chapter and third chapter respectively discuss at length the texts and teaching staff of British History course. In addition, in order to present general education situation for readers, this paper has five appendixes made according to the time, which visually shows the situations of British History course setting and texts using.
