The Fators Of Myers-Briggs Personality Types On Affecting Music Creative Thinking Of College Music Students

The purpose of this study was to explore the current situation of the Myers-Briggs Personality Types differences and the Creative Thinking in Music among pupils of music department of university. Besides this study was to determine if there was a significant differences between MBTI type and the Creative Thinking in Music, In order to establish a teaching strategy which could stimulate the Creative Thinking in Music effectually.Of the 345 pupils of music department of university in Wuhan were administered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(?) (MBTI-M) and Measurement of Creative Thinking in Music (MCTM). Results were as following:1.The MBTI type distribution of students of music department of university were ISTJ6.1%, ISFJ9.9%, INFJ15.1%, INTJ5.2%, ISTP1.4%, ISFP10.7%, INFP13.9%, INTP5.8%, ESTP2.9%, ESFP7.5%, ENFP4.3%, ENTP3.8%, ESTJ2.6%, ESFJ4.6%, ENFJ5.2%, ENTJ0.9%.The significant differences was found among the pupils on the Extraversion-Introversion (E-I) and Judgment-Perception (J-P) scales. The pupils were significantly more likely to be Introversion(I) and Perception(P). There were no significant differences among the pupils on the Sensing-Intuition(S-N) or Thinking-Feeling (T-F)scales.2.MBTI type differences existed among genders and that there were significant differences on the Thinking-Feeling(T-F) dichotomy. Females in this sample were more likely to prefer Feeling(F). A significant MBTI type difference was found between and majors along the Extraversion-Introversion(E-I) dichotomy and the Judging-Perceiving (J-P) dichotomy, indicating that piano pupils were more likely to be Introverted (I)when compared to vocal pupils. The theoretical pupils more likely to be Introverted(I) and Judging (J). Furthermore, the ethnic instrumental pupils were significantly more likely to be Intuition(N), and the western instrumental pupils were s ignificantly more likely to be Intro verted(I).3.Average score of Musical Extensive ME),Musical Flexibility(MF),Musical Originality(MO),Musical Syntax(MS)werel8.614points,16.702points,22.071points 16.468points. Results were lower than the average standards of Creative Thinking score in Music that establish by Webster&Baltzer except the score of Musical Originality (MO).4.There were no significant differences among genders or grades in the average score of Creative Thinking in Music.5.Statistically significant differences were found among average score of Creative Thinking in Music in MBTI type. There were significant differences in the MBTI’s Sensing-Intuition(S-N) dichotomy of the average score of Musical Extensiveness(ME) Musical Flexibility(MF) and Musical Originality(MO).Additionally, there were significant differences in the MBTI’s Judging-Perceiving(J-P)dichotomy of the average score of Musical Flexibility (MF) and Musical Syntax (MS).There were no significant differences in the MBTI’s Extraversion-Introversion (E-I) or Thinking-Feeling(T-F) dichotomy among the pupils of music department of university.Based on the conclusions,the research suggest the teaching strategy of treble model that could stimulate the Creative Thinking in Music among the pupils. The thesis also broaden horizen to provide new way of creative learning in music.
