Secondary vocational student is short for secondary vocational technical school students, and ordinary same as high school age, which usually is failed in the examination or the lack of interest in learning. The secondary vocational student’s general graduate after three years of learning, will enter the society and begin to work. There are a large number of secondary vocational schools in our country, secondary vocational student’s is a large group, secondary vocational and technical education in our country’s education system plays an important role. Self-esteem is part of the ego, is composition evaluation significance of self-awareness, self-esteem is one of the important indicators of mental health, not very exact definition of self-esteem. we could define Self-esteem as the attitude towards self-experience, social need to the reflection of the evaluation and personal pride. Self-defense style put forward by Sigmund Freud, is self threatened by environmental factors or other person, which can produce anxiety or guilt and activate the individual defense mechanism, in order to achieve the purpose of self-protection. Different individuals tend to have different style of defense, defensive style also can reflect the mental health status of the individual. This article from the secondary vocational student’s self-esteem and self-defense style, explore the secondary vocational student’s psychological health level, to study the status quo of self-esteem level of secondary vocational student and application situation of self-defense, for the school as well as the relevant departments to understand, improve the level of secondary vocational student’s psychological health offer theoretical support and practical basis. In this paper, with the self-esteem scale(SES) and ego-defense style questionnaire(DSQ) on 400 students from four of secondary vocational school in Nanchong city, effective 359 copies. Using the spss17.0 on data processing, analysis the relationship related to the self-esteem level and the style of self-defense, and analysis levels of self-esteem and ego-defense styles in gender, grade, whether the one-child, left-behind children, got the conclusion as follows:1. The boy and the girl’s self-esteem scores show significant difference. In the group with high self-esteem, self-esteem of left-behind children with the left-behind children show significant difference2. Whether the one-child or not and different family economic conditions do not show significant differences in self-esteem. On high self-esteem group, only children and the only child’s self-esteem show significant difference.3. The secondary vocational students are inclined to adopt mature defense style. Secondary overall moderately hide.4. The secondary vocational student’s ego-defense means there is no significant gender differences. Immature defense, intermediate defense exist significant differences on the grade. Left-behind children with the left-behind children were significantly differences in mature defense mode.5. Low, medium and high level of self-esteem has significant differences in the immature defense and Intermediate defense.6. low self-esteem with immature defense, self-esteem scores were significantly negative correlation. Mature defense with high self-esteem are significant negative correlation. Intermediate defense with low self-esteem, self-esteem scores were significantly negative correlation. Cover factor and low self-esteem, self-esteem scores were significantly negative correlation.
