Today’s society needs talents, vocational schools are the cradle of providing skilled talents, and the quality of learning input of secondary vocational students has also attracted much attention. In the past, researchers mainly paid attention to the school climate and learning input of middle school students and college students, and paid less attention to secondary vocational students. However, due to differences in individual cognitive psychology, behavior and other factors, there are also differences in the perception and understanding of school climate among secondary vocational students, which affects the quality of learning input.Based on the self-system model, external environmental factors can predict learning engagement by influencing the self-system,presenting a "environment-self-learning engagement" model.Under this guidance,a theoretical model of four variables of "school climate—school belonging—self-esteem—learning engagement" is constructed.Based on the theoretical model of four variables, this study investigates the current situation of school climate, school belonging,self-esteem and learning engagement of secondary vocational students, and deeply explores the influence relationship between the four,as well as the chain mediating role of school belonging and self-esteem,so as to provide scientific information and suggestions for secondary vocational schools to improve school climate and strengthen students’ learning engagement. This research mainly combs the concepts, measurement methods and related empirical research of school climate, school belonging,self-esteem and learning engagement in the literature review, and puts forward the overall conception of the thesis after comprehensive analysis. This paper selects adolescents’ perceived school climate scale, school belongingness scale,self-esteem scale and learning engagement scale as research tools, collects 995 questionnaires from a secondary vocational school in Jiangxi Province, and checks the questionnaires obtained, excludes the questionnaire with abnormal answers and the questionnaire with wrong answers to polygraph questions, and finally obtains 971 valid questionnaires, the effective rate is about97.58%.Using SPSS 26.0 for data analysis. The results show that:(1)The school climate, school belonging,self-esteem and learning engagement of secondary vocational students are generally above the middle level. There are significant differences in learning engagement between genders, and there are significant differences in school climate, school belonging and self-esteem in gender, grade, and place of origin.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between the school climate, school belonging,self-esteem and learning engagement of secondary vocational students.(3)school climate, school belonging, and self-esteem significantly positively predict the learning engagement of secondary vocational students.(4)school belonging and self-esteem play a chain mediating role in the process of school climate affecting the learning engagement of secondary vocational students. In summary, the school climate of secondary vocational students directly and indirectly affects their learning engagement through their belonging and self-esteem to the school. It can be seen that when individuals perceive a positive school climate, the higher the level of school belonging and self-esteem,which helps to improve the level of learning engagement. The results of this study are helpful to understand the influence mechanism of school climate on the learning engagement of secondary vocational students, clarify the role of different types of factors in the learning engagement of secondary vocational students, and provide practical suggestions for improving the learning engagement of secondary vocational students.
