With the current population aging in our country being increasingly serious, the traditional mode of family pension cannot cope with the challenges brought by the pension problem. As an important part of China’s pension system, institution endowment is a highly centralized place of pension service, which can provide various services for the elderly,including medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, daily care, etc. But for the elderly who live in the institutions, the limitation of living space leads to such phenomenon that the elderly gradually stay away from the community, and lack the emotional sustenance because their children have no time to take care of the elderly, and spiritual needs of the elderly cannot be met for a long time. Thus, spiritual consolation is an unavoidable problem in the aging society. From the perspective of social work, this article aims at understanding their spiritual needs and the difficulties of spiritual consolation on the basis of previous research, using the method of literature and case interview to inspect the elderly of X pension agency in Z city to carry out team work to explore the study of the spiritual solace of the aged in pension institutions involved by group work so that the article can assess the group work and make suggestions.This article is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the research background, significance, research and design, to recognize the necessity of the spiritual solace of the aged in pension institutions involved by group work. The second part is to introduce the relevant concepts and survey research, to sort out the research results of the past and the relevant literature. The third part takes the X pension institutions in Z city for example, and selects 6 elderly as members of group activities in an organization to evaluate the spiritual demand of the elderly and understand the problems existing in the spiritual consolation through interviews with the old men. The fourth part is the process involved by the group work.These five group activities can encourage the elderly to actively participate in society, recognize their own value, abandon the old ideas and face the life actively.The last part is a summary of the recommendations and puts forward suggestions on the basis of previous analysis that the spiritual consolation of the elderly needs the efforts of the society, governments, institutions, social workers and themselves.
