The GIS market has grown to accommodate general-purpose and tailored packages for a wide range of application areas.And these last two decades GIS have been used for smarter and safer transportation networks.A renewed focus has emerged on using technology effectively and intelligent transportation systems(ITS).GIS technology is playing an ever increasing role in transportation as a platform to integrate and fuse vast amounts of information.This kind of systems brought together information from various sensors and automated systems to provide a single source and aims to facilitate better traffic management,incident management and emergency response.Many companies holding fleet such as cars,vans,and trucks need to have an efficient management way especially when their businesses are based on transportation.This system helps institutions to manage vehicle fleet efficiently and effectively through smart allocation of resources.Fleet management system is a rapid growing industry.Any company making deliveries,traveling to clients' offices,carrying equipment or getting Benchmarks and geodetic points by a Service of geodesy and leveling and many others,have stuff and fleet,and they need a way to manage that to improve the productivity,reduce the overall costs of transportation and staff,remove or minimize the risks associated to vehicle investment and many other advantages like help in decision making.In this project,a web-enabled Android App for:fleet management is proposed and designed.It incorporates the power of concurrent Global Positioning System(GPS)and Global System for Mobile Communications(GSM)positioning,and back-end web-based management.Both mobile vehicle monitoring and user communication functions are supported.It provides a location tracking of any vehicle at any time,tasks spread and stuffs' communication.All the data that the users send are transferred to a server through internet traffic.All the data is stored and sa'ved in a MySQL database and the customer could receive it from any android device where the application is installed and the user has been authenticated.Mobile phones are used as terminals instead of GPS receiver witch can be less precise but much more efficient and cheaper.The use of GPS hardware systems to track the fleet is highly expensive as the companies would invest a huge amount of money in procuring the GPS tracking systems for all their vehicles when smartphones nowadays come with an in-built GPS.Furthermore,the use of smartphones allows combining the tracking and communication tasks with low cost.The proposed App is successfully implemented and evaluated.Results from the test-bed shown that user can monitor and track the real-time physical location and conditions of their vehicles via the mobile application provided.The web-enabled fleet management mobile application also helped the user to manage fleets more effectively.
