This paper put forward the research on the cullet washing machine based on the manufacturing process of the foam glass. The paper research on working device of the cullet washing machine, achieving improvement and optimization of the cullet washing machine, and ultimately improve the cleaning effect of the cullet washing machine.Firstly, it introduced the influence and the importance of the cullet washing machine in the manufacturing process of the foam glass. Then,the paper proposed the background and the significance of this particular research subject. In addition, it presented the current situation and the developing trends of this kind of machine, and at the same time, the EDEM on the discrete element method was put forward to discuss the feasibility and the advantage of this machine.Based on the prototype of the cullet washing machine which was designed by Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, the paper introduced this machine from different aspects, including the structure, the advantages and the shortcomings. Meanwhile, it also raised the formulae to calculate the production capacity and the power of this machine. And then, the three-dimensional model for the cullet washing machine was shaped by using Solid Works. The deformation and the stress cloud of this device was obtained by using ANSYS Workbench which was used to analysis the 3D model of the machine supporting the following computer simulation in EDEM.According to less research about the design and the computer simulation of the cullet washing machine, the structural parameters and the working parameters were deeply studied by creating seventeen contrast experiments of the computer simulation in the EDEM. Through the analysis of the structural parameters, it indicated that the cullet washing machine was influenced by the variable pitch and the height of the spiral vane. Experiment results showed that the optimal range of the pitch of the spiral vane is between 250 mm and 350 mm and the optimal height is between 160 mm and 220 mm. Through the analysis ofthe working parameters, it indicated that the velocity of the particles is markedly influenced by the rotational speed of the barrel and the feed quantity. Through the contrast analysis of the velocity in X, Y and Z axis directions, it indicated that the rotational speed of the barrel has more influence on the velocity of the particles in X axis direction than the feed quantity. In general, a series of valuable data and charts were obtained through this paper, which played an instructional role in the following transformation and the further research on the cullet washing machine.
