Gantry CNC milling machine is widely used in machining,and traditional fixed columns and movable crossbeam type Gantry milling machine are the mainstream of the general Grantry milling machine,and it have many advances,such as flexible adjustment,applicability,wide range of processing,and so on,so it is widely used in production.But because of the structural layout problems,this type of machine tools generally have large parts,such as large size and weight,deficient stiffness,poor dynamic characteristics and other defects,and it is difficult to improve the processing speed and accuracy.Therefore,it is significant to analyze and improve the traditional fixed columns and movable crossbeam type Gantry milling machine.In this paper,the structure layout of the traditional fixed columns and movable crossbeam type Gantry milling machine is planed,and the structural layout of the whole machine is changed to eliminate the structural defects of the traditional structure,and then the main components mechanical structure is improved,so these makes machine structure meet requirements of high speed machining.And the structure of fixed columns and movable crossbeam type gantry milling machine is studied by the technology of finite element analysis and virtual prototype technology.This paper mainly study following aspects contents:(1)The traditional fixed columns and movable crossbeam type gantry milling machine is analyzed,and the reasons for the cantilever layout type structural is found out;The improved ideas and schemes is put forward;Then project design of the whole machine is confirmed,and the structural system is designed,and then the structure and working principle of new machine is determined,and the structure,transmission,assembly and other aspects of the main components are designed.(2)According to the designed schemes,the design standards and technical manual of the Gantry milling machine are consulted,and the geometry structure of the main parts is designed,then the 3D software UG8.0 is used to establish the model of the main parts,such as column and the movable crossbeam,and then the related functional units is designed and chosen.(3)The important structural performance of the improved Gantry milling machine is studied.The maximum working load of machine is calculated.The actual workingconditions of machine is analyzed.The mechanical model of crossbeam and other key parts is established,and the static and modal parameters of the key parts is analyzed by ANSYS software,to verify properties of designed model.(4)The assemble structure performance of the improved Gantry milling machine is studied.According to the component function,the whole machine is divided into several components,and depend on the actual working conditions,the working model is built,analyzed,and the performance of each components in the complex working conditions is compared.The static and modal characteristics of working model is studied in three typical working conditions of the Gantry frame,cross crossbeam component,worktable component and Gantry component model.Through analyzing,the stiffness,modal and vibration mode of model are obtained,and the effect of the moving parts' position at component is studied.The new designed gantry milling machine model is a new structure,and the intended design objectives has achieved;The whole machine structure has realized symmetrical about the gantry framework geometric center.In addition to the slide pillow,other components without cantilever structure,and the new milling machine can meet the mechanical processing requirements.In this paper,designed symmetrical structure type Gantry milling machine,not only provides a new idea for the improvement of the Gantry milling machine,but also provides a reference for the research and development design of large gantry milling machine with high speed and high precision.
