In this paper, research on the issue about low acid strength and high transfer resistance of sulfonated polystyrene resin in the process of catalytic distillation was conducted.Titanium sol with different indexes was prepared by Sol-Gel method. The solid content and grafting rate were determined. The modified titanium dioxide was introduced on the surface and in the pore of alumina in different ways.Styrene as raw material formded linear polystyrene in the process of polymerization by controlling condition. Then it formed sulfonated polystyrene resin in the process of sulfonation reaction in which sulfuric acid as sulfonation agent. The catalyst loading and ion exchange capacity of all methods were determined. The prepared catalyst was used in esterification reaction. The conversion rate was determined after the reaction. The results showed that the catalytic effect of one method was superior to other methods. The specific steps were that alumina impregnated tetra-n-butyl titanate to prepared Titanium sol in the condition of high grafting rate. Then styrene was added to form sulfonated polystyrene resin after situ polymerization and sulfonation reaction. The load capacity was 0.35 g and the ion exchange capacity was 0.3468 mmol/g.In the experiment of esterification reaction, the conversion rate can reached 79.01% under the selected experimental conditions.
