The Prevalence, Awareness, Treatment, Control, And The Risk Factors Of Hypertension In Chongqing Province

ObjectivesWe aimed to investigate the awareness,prevalence,treatment,control,and the associated risk factors of hypertension in the Chongqing population in Southwest of China.MethodsWe used multistage,stratified,random cluster sampling scheme to recruit representative samples.The study participants who were selected in the study should complet physical examinations and a questionnaire.We adopted Multivariable logistic regression models to analyze the multivariate associated risk factors.ResultsAbout 14420 people,including 7186 males participated in our study.Study participants enrolled were more than eighteen years old.The overall prevalence of hypertension was 23.9%,with urban residents having a lower prevalence than rural residents(21.6 vs.26.0%,P<0.001).In the treated patients,the awareness rate of hypertension,treatment rate,control rate and control rate after treatment were 44.1%,36.6%,8.5%,and 23.3%,respectively.Older women in urban areas have higher awareness and higher rates of treatment.The urban and rural areas have different rates of control(12.9% versus 5.1%,P <0.001).Sex,age,alcohol,family history of hypertension,obesity/overweight,visceral adipose index,and body fat percentage were common risk factors for hypertension in urban and rural areas.The level of education,smoking and daily salt intake are only risk factors for hypertension in rural residents,while central obesity was associated only with hypertension in urban residents.Sex,age,educational level,rurality,alcohol consumption,obesity/overweight,central obesity,body fat percentage and visceral adipose index were related factors of hypertension awareness,treatment rate and control rate.ConclusionIn the past ten years,hypertension prevalence in Chongqing has generally increased.Hypertension awareness,treatment and control have improved,but remaineded at a low level.There should be a more active high blood pressure management strategy for the prevention and treatment of hypertension.
