| This is a translation report on the excerpts from Approaches to Translation(page145-188)written by Peter Newmark.The book is a collection of essays regarding the discussion on translation theory and practice.The excerpts translated by the author of the translation project state some common translation problems in translation practice and corresponding suggestions put forward by the author,which is of great significance for translation practice.Texts are classified into three types by Newmark: informative texts,expressive texts and vocative texts.It can be inferred that the source text bears the characteristics of informative texts through the analysis of the source text.Informative texts aim at conveying information to the readers.Newmark’s communicative translation theory is appropriate for the translation of informative texts.Therefore communicative translation theory is used by the author to guide the whole process of translation.Guided by communicative translation theory,the author adopts some translation techniques,such as amplification,conversion and division,in order to accurately deliver the information of the original text and achieve communicative effects.This translation report is composed of five parts.The first part is the introduction to the translation project,including background,significance,goals and structure of the translation project.The second part describes translation process,consisting of pre-translation preparation,while-translation work and post-translation proofreading.The third part explains research background,including background of the source text and theoretical basis.The fourth part consists of case studies.The author cites some examples to analyze problem-processing strategies and several translation techniques used under the theory of communicative translation.The fifth part is a summary of the translation report,consisting of the author’s experience and lessons obtained from this translation project. |
