A Report On The C-E Translation Of China Manufacturing(Excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

Manufacturing industry of China is facing double extrusion from both developed and developing countries in this new round of global industrial technology revolution.The book China Manufacturing puts forward countermeasures for manufacturing industry of China from the perspective of economic management.This translation report is based on the translation of Chapter 5 of this book,which specifically proposes ten keys to improve the soft power of manufacturing industry.It is hoped that these cases of successes and failures in the book can contribute as references to other countries in their manufacturing and industrial transformation,and provide one more channel for manufacturing industry of China to interact with the rest of the world.The source text selected for this translation is sort of economic management work.It is an informative text according to Newmark’s classification of text-types.Newmark proposed that the translation criteria for informative texts mainly emphasize equivalent effect and target language,so communicative translation method is suitable for the translation of it,which attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.This translation report makes a case study on this basis.First of all,at the lexical level,it is necessary to interpret the connotation of words with ambiguity,general vague terms and tautologies according to the relevant context,and translation technique of amplification and cohesive devices such as substitution and ellipsis are adopted.At the syntactic level,there are more implicit logic and active sentences in Chinese.In order to ensure the readability of the translation,translation techniques of shift from active to passive voice,shift from parataxis to hypotaxis,clauses restructuring are used to make the translation conform to the grammatical habits of the target language.At the discourse level,paragraph information is dense and theme interpretation is circuitous,thus cohesion and coherence are used to enhance the logical cohesion between sentences and paragraphs,and the necessary cohesive devices are added to strengthen the cohesion of the text.
