An Empirical Study Of The Word Class Labeling Of The Sports Lexemes In Grand Dictionnaire Chinois-fran(?)ais Contemporain (2014)

The study of Chinese word class has a long history,and scholars have had discussions on the criteria of word class identification,the question whether Chinese has word class.The points of view about this issue also have developed and transformed from the idea that “Chinese has no fixed word class” and “Chinese has no morphological change” to the idea that “Chinese has morphological change but the change is less”.Moreover,the idea that the word class identification shall be less if possible and the word class labeling in dictionary compiling shall abide by the “principle of simplicity” has transformed to the idea that the word class labeling shall have objectivity and respect the language facts.In this thesis,on the basis of the Two-Level Word class Categorization Theory,in accordance with the results from Chinese National Corpus(CNC)and Modern Chinese Corpus of the State Language Commission of China(CCL),as well as in comparison with the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary(6th edition),with the sports lexemes in the Grand Dictionnaire Chinois-Fran?ais Contemporain(2014),the thesis thinks that the word class of some sports lexemes in the Grand Dictionnaire Chinois-Fran?ais Contemporain(2014)are inadequately labeled,and finds the following problems,such as,the phenomenon of inconsistency exists in word class labeling,lexicographical translation and exemplification;the word class labeling criteria of sports lexemes are inconsistent;word class labeling is not complete and the word class labeling of some symmetric lexemes are inconsistent.Especially,sports lexemes with verb-noun structure,which have been conventionalized in the process of categorization and re-categorization,and have the double attributes of verb and noun,i.e.the nominalization of verbs,including self-reference usage and trans-reference usage.But,it only sets respective sense for the trans-reference usage;while for the self-reference usage,it does not set respective for it,but it puts the word class labeling of noun and verb into single sense,with approach of blending labeling.The thesis thinks that,through conventionalization,the individual mental lexicon by the level of the parole has been changed into communal language by the level of the langue,and usage patterns including their word classes should be labeled in a detailed and objective way and abide by the functions of propositional speech acts when labeling the word classes in dictionary;the dictionary shall set respective sense for both self-reference usage and trans-reference usage,and the translations and exemplifications given shall be suitable and the standard for the word class labeling for symmetric lexemes shall be consistent.The thesis aims to provide enlightenment for revision of Grand Dictionnaire Chinois-Fran?ais Contemporain(2014)through research of the sports lexemes in it,at the same time,meanwhile,to provide help for the word class labeling of the sports lexemes with self-reference and trans-reference usage and to deepen the research on Chinese word class system itself.
